A *NEW* Adventure Begins!
Unplanned Adventures

Friends! Yes, another new adventure is about to begin (or has begun, depending on when you read this). We’re hiking the Camino de Santiago for … well, we don’t know how long yet. Details below!

WHY?
Isn’t that a great question? Why? Why do we choose this or decide to do that? Why do we respond when those choices lead us in strange directions?
While we were on our Baja adventure, we needed to head back to the states to handle some things that could only be handled on US soil, so we decided that we needed a pivot. And in less time than it took for you to read that, we decided to go fly to Portugal and walk to Spain. We decided to go hike the Camino de Santiago.
We had considered going to Vietnam, but the rainy season kinda put the temporary kibosh on that.
But we’re talking “why” here, not where.
I have this need to periodically challenge and redefine myself. I did it when I drove to Baja with no knowledge of what to expect. And yes, that trip changed me in major ways. But then my ADHD / Shiny Squirrel thing kicked in and I got compelled to do something equally different.
You might have noticed that I changed the theme of the YouTube channel recently to “Unplanned Adventures”. I got a comment asking why and … well, because that’s the real way I live my life. You’re supposed to share your passion, and mine is being spontaneous. Things don’t always work out the way we envision them, but living this way always gives you great stories to tell afterwards. LOL!
I can’t wait to share the next Camino Adventure with you!
I have a favor to ask of you. (Or is that favour, now that I’m Europe-bound?). I’m looking for ideas on what to share while I hike my Camino. And no, you don’t have to have had the experience … what I’m looking for are introspective thoughts and questions you might have while on a long pilgrimage. I want to explore not just my thoughts, but yours as well.
After all, I’m going to have a lot of hours just living in my head. LOL!
The PERFECT BAJA ROAD TRIP (Full Itinerary!)
After almost three months traveling down in Baja California in our beloved skoolie The Huckleberry, we finally crossed back into the US for the next adventure. But we weren’t done with Mexico quite yet.
I decided that I wanted to compile a video of everything, which meant that I had to watch each and every video I made in order to cherry pick the parts that I wanted to re-share. And wow …
I have something called aphantasia, which means that I’m unable to visualize anything. Think of an apple, you probably see it in your “minds eye”. I only see, well nothing. So watching our travels on YouTube was the only way I could “see” what we did and man … it was great re-experiencing everything. It was truly an adventure. (Which will be repeated!).
Hope you enjoy the way-back video!

The Camino
So yep, the bus has been settled into storage out in California and we’re boarding a jet plane towards Europe in just a couple of days. There to land in Portugal and eventually walk to Spain.
Yes, you read that correctly. The Camino is a walking pilgrimage towards the town of Santiago in Spain. There are a number (hundreds!) of paths you can take and ours is going to be just under 200 miles long.
So no, it’s not a one day hike. LOL!
I’m going to be pumping out videos and social media posts as often as I can while on the walk, but we’re also going to be in the most rural of areas, so delivery is going to be based on whatever internet is available.
Here’s the 30,000’ plan: We fly into Lisbon and stay for a week. Getting over jet lag and walking the city in a semi-fruitless attempt to train for walking every day for a month. LOL! Then we either fly/train to Porto Portugal and start the walk.
We’ll be staying at hostels along the way and probably taking a “day off” every few days to rest. Then again, I’ve never done this, so everything is open to change. What I do know is that I’m seriously excited to be doing this.
What do I hope to get out of my pilgrimage? No idea, and perhaps that’s what I’m actually hoping to find. Confusing, I know. But aren’t all pilgrimages supposed to be open-ended?
